SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. -- Investigators are unsure if a piece of luggage found Monday in a San Joaquin County irrigation pond is tied to the disappearance of Sandra Cantu.

Cantu, 8, was last seen March 27 inside Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park, just off West Clover Road.
Tracy police said farmworkers found a black, sealed case Monday while they were draining a pond near Bacchetti Road, about two miles from Orchard Estates.
It was a black piece of luggage of significant size with both hard and soft sides.
"There are no indications that there are human remains in there," Tracy police spokesman Sgt. Tony Sheneman said.

Officials in white suits removed the luggage from the pond shortly after 5 p.m. It was loaded into a van and driven to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office in French Camp.
"We don't know what's in there, if there's anything or nothing," Sheneman said.
A media update will be held at 8 p.m. at Tracy City Hall.
Police were using extreme care because the scene was suspicious, Sheneman said. Investigators were documenting everything carefully, he said, photographing the scene, looking for footmarks and tire tracks and mapping the entire area with a laser device.

Investigators take a sealed container out of a San Joaquin County pond.

The item wasn't there when the pond was flooded, officials said, but it's unknown when the water was added. Sheneman said there had been water in the pond for at least two weeks.
The area is full of agricultural fields, plowed land waiting to be planted and some irrigation ditches. It's adjacent to a dairy farm.
At Monday afternoon's media update, Sheneman read a statement from Maria Chavez, Cantu's mother. In it, Chavez said Lisa Encarnacion is no longer a representative for the family, and she thanked Encarnacion and Tracy police for their work.

Sandra's Mother ws there in the room and couldn't handle it and left, you could see and feel her grief
